Cricket is a hugely popular sport in India, and the Women’s Cricket Team of Team India is one of the best in the world and the leading team in Asia. The team has reached the ODI World Cup final twice, losing to Australia by 98 runs in 2005, and losing to England by 9 runs in 2017. India has also made it to the semi-finals on three other occasions, in 1997, 2000, and 2009. Harmanpreet Kaur made history by becoming the first woman from India to score a century in a Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) match. Other notable names in the sport include Poonam Yadav (leg-spinner), Jemimah Rodrigues (batswoman), Shikha Pandey (medium-pacer), and Deepti Sharma (all-rounder), among several others.
